RYA DAY SKIPPER COURSE
The RYA Day Skipper Course teaches the potential RYA Day Skipper to take on full responsibility for the yacht and its crew. The RYA Day Skipper responsibilities include supplies, engine maintenance, sail selection, passage planning, watches, navigation, pilotage and weather forecasting. RYA Day Skipper is the ideal course for anyone who has bought their own yacht. During the RYA Day Skipper Course you will skipper the yacht on short passages from Hayling to Chichester and on the Solent and there will be much emphasis on boat handling and mooring. During the RYA Day Skipper course you will stay onboard. As part of the RYA Day Skipper Course you will visit different harbours and anchorages to practice pilotage techniques. An RYA Day Skipper will also complete at least 4 night hours sailing to experience night pilotage and identify navigation lights.
DAY SKIPPER PRACTICAL
At the end of the Dayskipper course you will be a confident to dayskipper of a cruising yacht on short passages by day. Students who successfully complete the Dayskipper practical course are awarded the RYA Day Skipper practical course completion certificate and can charter from the school.
This course will also enable you to apply for the ICC (International Certificate of Competence). A recognised European qulification. The ICC, obtained by presenting your RYA Day Skipper practical certificate, will cover sailing yachts up to 24 metres in length in coastal waters.
