RYA SRC & VHF Radio Course
This one-day VHF course teaches the basics of RYA VHF radio operation, the correct frequencies (channels) to be used and distress, emergency & medical assistance procedures. On the VHF Course you use real radio equipment rather than simulators, enabling you to become confident in using the various controls and DSC (Digital Selective Calling) functions. The RYA VHF course is structures to discuss the changes that have to the VHF radio network with the implementation of the Global Maritime Distress System (G.M.D.S.S.). During the RYA VHF course your instructor will be able to advise you about the best equipment for your own boat.
On completion of VHF radio Course
At the end of the VHF Radio course students take a short exam. The exam has a high pass rate, and is not too difficult. Following successful completion of this exam you will be issued with the "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Certificate of Competence and Authority to Operate". There is an exam fee payable directly to the RYA on the day of the VHF course.
Marine Radio
The marine radio is an important piece of safety equipment onboard a small craft and can be used under the supervision of a VHF license holder. It is important to note that any person operating a marine radio without the correct certification is liable for prosecution and can have the equipment confiscated. All Marine radio users need to obtain the VHF License to operate their radios safely and legally! The VHF Course for marine radio is a pre requisite for candidates taking either their RYA/MCA Coastal Skipper or RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence examinations.
